I'm all moved in to my new apartment. I totally had drama on moving day. It was a 14 hour move! Hi, red bull. I was exhausted. I got to my new building around 3PM w/ the movers. The staff had no idea who I was and had no permission to move me in. Like I said, drama. It was very frustrating because of course I had confirmed my move in and so had my movers, but some wires got crossed somewhere. It wasn't until 6:15 that they let us start unloading the truck. I still had pieces to deliver to the Hamptons after this, thus the long day. We finally wrapped in up and 11:45 PM. The move started around 9am. I crashed at my house, but these poor guys had to drive all the way back to the city. Let me tell you I got to know these guys a bit on this very long day, and moving is a very very hard job. They re typically up around 5:30 am to get to their first job and the jobs usually last all day and well into the night. Obviously its also physically exhausting. They told me war stories about grand pianos down 6 flights of stairs, carrying couches up 20 flights because it wouldn't fit in the elevator (for a huge tip of course), and even once one of the guys was moving a man with 2 prostetic legs and actually had to remove his legs for him and put them back on in order to take a cab together to the new apartment he was moving to. These guys are heros seriously. I was impressed. A very unappreciated job indeed. After the moving drama, I got all settled in. Luna was confused for like 3 days, but she is better now. I had donated most of my old furniture to charity, so I had a lot of fun running around getting new furniture. I got a great piece at www.asianantinquefurniture.com at 10 West 18th Street. I was able to negotiate about 40% off and I paid $35 to deliver a very large and heavy item and they did it all within an hour of the purchase. I was also very pleased with a couple things I got at AI Friedman, not a place you may normally think of for furniture. I got a great dining bat table w/ 2 stools, very unique and for a great price. They also have tons of catalogs you can search through and order and I found the prices to be very reasonable. I also got an awesome and very large fur rug from a random store called Sitdown New York on 18th and Broadway. It was a great price and they have all different patterns to choose from. Mine is grey and white though, mostly white and Luna seems to think it's her long lost grandmother or something. She rolls around in it and so on and so forth. It's really very funny.  At work we have experienced the winter slow down. Thank goodness its not completely dead, but it's not the summer that's for sure. I do find that the people that do have to move are very serious though in this time of year. It's not like the summer where you get shoppers and people who maybe have to move. if someone is out and this weather apartment hunting, they are serious. I have hired two new agents to my team. Laika and Jenn. They both have experience and are doing really great with us. Laika made two deals in her first week with a new Landlord I had picked up an exclusive from sent my another Landlord. he walked in our office on our first day. And she rented two apartments that had been on the market for several months with a larger firm, in one week. Needless to say, we both felt her presence at Adina Equities was meant to me. Same with Jenn. Fits right in, has the whole team work attitude plus she is a December baby like me, our birthdays are two days apart, so we "get" each other. I am planning to launch an Adina Virtual division by the end of this year. It will be for agents that don't need a full time desk but will benefit from the "Adina" brand at a higher split. The exclusives though will only be assigned to the in office agents-as I need to know what's going on with those very closely. So that's the big news of the day..

I have to say the search for a new apartment looks like it has resulted in a happy ending. I did sign a new lease today, two years because I dread the idea of doing this all over again, even though I do this for a living!! Seriously, moving is SO stressful, you think you're never going to find that perfect space that feels like home but just when you're about so give up, along comes the apt that you walk into and say "this is it". I totally believe in that and that is exactly what happened to me. I had lots of mishaps, especially in the beginning of my search from brokers who refused to answer a single question until a filled out an application, to Owners telling me their apartment is also listed for sale and they are in no rush to rent (um, duh, people looking for rentals like need to move usually pretty quickly) to seeing apartments that smelled like rotten food or like an ashtray. I went through all that stuff-pictures that look nothing like the apartment when you get there, agents with keys that don't work, someones idea of an apartment being renovated was the fact that it wasn't original-but the "renovation" took place in 1989. Hello, I was like 15. I also had my fair share of really good experiences. I met two wonderful and very professional agents from Halstead. And I got my "no fee" rental through two fantastic agents who work as a team at Prudential Douglas Elliman. I was so happy to sign that lease today and going through the whole process for myself really reminded me how nerve wracking this can be for people. After I saw the apartment, I was floating down Park Avenue dreaming of moving into this place. I just loved it, and knew the minute I walked in the door. It goes to show you, when you know, you know. If you have to go back 2, 3 times to an apartment or can't decide-it's probably not the place for you. Moreover, a word to the rental agents out there-if your customer doesn't decide on the spot, even if they say they would "think about it" I would suggest to continue the search for them and cover your butt because I bet they will decide to "keep looking." In any event, I ran back to my office and tax returns, bank statements flyng around, I literally RAN to the fax machine and told my agents we should shoot a video that THIS is how you should act if you want an apartment. Like a crazy lunatic filling out paperwork and calling your CPA for a letter all at the same time. Unless of course you are one of those organized people out there-which I am not! Anyhoo, looks like this is all behind me, for the next two years at least. Now I'm on to getting quotes from movers. Not my favorite part! Let's see what happens....

We got an accepted over on my 55 East End Avenue apartment from a lovely couple, couldn't be nicer people, who saw the article in New York Magazine about the listing. How cool is that!

The second apartment I went to go see was in a no fee Luxury High Rise Building. I'm not going to say which, although, it's's a luxurious one, new construction, famous designer etc. I call over a weekend and they say to just come on it to the rental office-they don't take appointments. I went-the girl answering the phone greets me. She offers me coffee and water. So far so good. There's trendy lounge music playing in the lobby and the hallways-I sort of feel like I'm at the W hotel. She says to take a seat and the on site agent will be right with me. 40 Minutes later, 3 other sets of people have no joined me in the waiting room and we are still waiting for the agent. Just when I was to take my bottle of water and go, he comes in the waiting area to greet us. There are 4 groups total, a couple looking for a studio for their son, 2 couples and me. We are all looking for something in different price ranges but since there are so many of us, he suggests a group tour. I all of a sudden feel like a 4th Grader all over again. We are walking in a straight line behind this guy down the hallways and into various apartments on different floors. By the 3rd unit (still not what I'm looking for) I loose my patience. I politely said to the on site that I would go wait in his office and to take his time whenever you are done, I'd like a private tour because I'm very seriously looking and I can't concentrate like this. Believe it or not, he gets all flustered and tells the other people who are standing in a 250 square foot studio that he is going to take me on my tour and he will meet them at his office when he is done. We weren't even on the same floor of his office. I really couldn't believe it, lol, I didn't know if I should feel good for myself but bad for them. I didn't rent there in the end. After that I decided that I don't think I want to be in a luxury rental high rise. One thing I am not a huge fan of are the huge flags with the rental office phone number hanging off of the building. I mean, is that really necessary? It makes me feel like I am SO not at home. So the search continues.

To be continued.
