Apartments - Notes From Adina

I'm all moved in to my new apartment. I totally had drama on moving day. It was a 14 hour move! Hi, red bull. I was exhausted. I got to my new building around 3PM w/ the movers. The staff had no idea who I was and had no permission to move me in. Like I said, drama. It was very frustrating because of course I had confirmed my move in and so had my movers, but some wires got crossed somewhere. It wasn't until 6:15 that they let us start unloading the truck. I still had pieces to deliver to the Hamptons after this, thus the long day. We finally wrapped in up and 11:45 PM. The move started around 9am. I crashed at my house, but these poor guys had to drive all the way back to the city. Let me tell you I got to know these guys a bit on this very long day, and moving is a very very hard job. They re typically up around 5:30 am to get to their first job and the jobs usually last all day and well into the night. Obviously its also physically exhausting. They told me war stories about grand pianos down 6 flights of stairs, carrying couches up 20 flights because it wouldn't fit in the elevator (for a huge tip of course), and even once one of the guys was moving a man with 2 prostetic legs and actually had to remove his legs for him and put them back on in order to take a cab together to the new apartment he was moving to. These guys are heros seriously. I was impressed. A very unappreciated job indeed. After the moving drama, I got all settled in. Luna was confused for like 3 days, but she is better now. I had donated most of my old furniture to charity, so I had a lot of fun running around getting new furniture. I got a great piece at www.asianantinquefurniture.com at 10 West 18th Street. I was able to negotiate about 40% off and I paid $35 to deliver a very large and heavy item and they did it all within an hour of the purchase. I was also very pleased with a couple things I got at AI Friedman, not a place you may normally think of for furniture. I got a great dining bat table w/ 2 stools, very unique and for a great price. They also have tons of catalogs you can search through and order and I found the prices to be very reasonable. I also got an awesome and very large fur rug from a random store called Sitdown New York on 18th and Broadway. It was a great price and they have all different patterns to choose from. Mine is grey and white though, mostly white and Luna seems to think it's her long lost grandmother or something. She rolls around in it and so on and so forth. It's really very funny.  At work we have experienced the winter slow down. Thank goodness its not completely dead, but it's not the summer that's for sure. I do find that the people that do have to move are very serious though in this time of year. It's not like the summer where you get shoppers and people who maybe have to move. if someone is out and this weather apartment hunting, they are serious. I have hired two new agents to my team. Laika and Jenn. They both have experience and are doing really great with us. Laika made two deals in her first week with a new Landlord I had picked up an exclusive from sent my another Landlord. he walked in our office on our first day. And she rented two apartments that had been on the market for several months with a larger firm, in one week. Needless to say, we both felt her presence at Adina Equities was meant to me. Same with Jenn. Fits right in, has the whole team work attitude plus she is a December baby like me, our birthdays are two days apart, so we "get" each other. I am planning to launch an Adina Virtual division by the end of this year. It will be for agents that don't need a full time desk but will benefit from the "Adina" brand at a higher split. The exclusives though will only be assigned to the in office agents-as I need to know what's going on with those very closely. So that's the big news of the day..
