Last night I read an article about big companies vs small companies. I whole heartedly agree with everything it said. Big companies offer more resources like legal departments and so forth. But small companies have a certain spirit that's catchy that often infuses the work place. There's something attractive about a "small elite team" and of course I agree with all of that. I would say that is definitely the case with our office. Owning my own business hasn't been easy. I've had a lot of ups and downs. I have tried new things and failed and gone back to square one. On the days when I felt like giving up, I thought about joining a "big firm'. I've had moments of fantasizing about what my life would have been like if I had done that. There was something that always didn't feel right to me about making that move. Even when I was being offered big salaries to manage rental departments and so on. I always took a pass, even when with the offer there was a financial gain. Something I read last night made it all very clear to me. I read "big companies is where small companies go to fail". Wow. I almost cried! yes, that's right. If I wanted to kill my company and it's spirit that's exactly what I could do. Go to a a big firm and give up. I am so happy I didn't. I am so happy I didn't. There, I said it twice. Sometimes a small firm has a big firm type of impact on an industry. I know that it's rare. But I did that, with the help of some wonderful staff that has been in and out of my doors. No one can ever take that achievement away from me. It's been done. And from here, the sky's the limit as far as I'm concerned.. I have to go get ready for work now..
