The Angelika Theater on the corner of East Houston and Mercer in Manhattan's famously trendy SoHo is perhaps the city's favorite art-house theater which provides a rotating schedule of the latest in independent and foreign films. Screenings run almost all day and into the night with late showings beginning after midnight. It is situated right in the center of SoHo/NoHo and is close to NYU. Aside from its excellent film selection the Angelika Cafe is open weekdays from 10am-10pm and until midnight on weekends. The food is excellent with a large assortment of pastries, deserts, and yummy sandwiches (the best thing is the vegan brownie...seriously) and the big, comfortable couches offer a casual place where locals hang out to discuss post-film over coffee. Its convenient location to the FVBD and 6 trains at Houston, and the NRQW trains at Prince (one block south of Houston) make it easily accessible to those who don't live downtown.
