In the typically small NYC apartment, every square inch counts.  When considering furniture or accent pieces for your abode, it’s best to find something that has both that “wow factor” and some kind of function.  Believe me, it’s not easy. 

That’s why I love the Light Box floor lamp by Gus Modern.  To call these illuminated roto-molded plastic boxes “lamps” is a bit deceptive.  These are 18”x18”18” stand-alone cubes that you put on your floor.  They can function as very chic accent tables, sculptures, or even extra seating (they can hold up to 250 pounds).  All the while, they’ll keep your apartment aglow.

Light Box looks fancy, but only needs your standard light bulb.  It’s also lightweight.  I like the idea of getting a few and improvising a coffee table.  One or two would also be gorgeous as a hallway light or ideal in a kid’s -- make that a stylish kid’s -- bedroom. 

The price of a Light Box is a bit steep at $276.25 per cube.  It seems justifiable, though, if you’re looking for a functional and fashionable touch for any room in your home.
