My New Year’s resolutions run the gamut. In the home décor category, I aspire to create a gallery of some of my favorite photos in the long, narrow hallway from my front door to living room and kitchen.
Framing is tedious and expensive, and I’m hoping to rotate pictures as the year goes on. The Magnart Display System, which uses strong magnets on metal backing plates to hang art, may be just the solution.
Don’t fret -- this is not your kindergarten-artwork-on-the-refrigerator sort of display. The metal backing plates are small and kept on the wall with a nail or adhesive tab. They’ll likely be covered anyway by whatever photograph, map, textile, poster, or drawing you hang. Best of all, these small, super-strong magnets won’t damage what you hang. The magnets come in a few colors to fit your décor. I think the stainless steel or white ones look sleekest, but you could choose colors to complement individual pieces of art.
The price point looks good, too. A set with 8 black caps costs only $3.93. A 24 set box totals $46.89. I don’t have to tell you that this beats the cost and inflexibility of framing.
The Magnart Display System is available at Blick Art Materials at 1-5 Bond Street. |
